Dear friends! The year 2020 hasn't been a very good year so let's hope 2021 will be better! One thing's for sure - our white fluffy friends will do their best to keep us in good spirits!

Die "Arena" ist in Berlin Treptow. Dort habe ich auch meine Impfung bekommen.
Heute war ich seit langem wieder einmal im Tierpark. Ich habe gestaunt, wie viele Menschen dort waren. Viele Tiere machten sich rar. Auch Tonja und Hertha waren nur kurz draussen. Sie haengen noch sehr aneinander. Hertha folgte ihrer Mutter auf dem FuÃ?.
Aber irgendwie war heute nicht mein Tag. Ich musste mich oft hinsetzen. Trotzdem war es schoen und es lag schon Fruehling in der Luft.

OEPS, Dumba, this is a difficult one. Since I cannot answer in the Backroom, I do it here. My guess is that this pic is taken in Zoo Berlin close to the Aquarium.

Here half of the day was 'göttlich' and rather mild - in the afternoon we had grey back but it was still mild and we had an interesting sky (you know I love wild skies . . .). . .
Annemarie - Glueckwunsch, dass es mit dem Impfen doch besser geklappt hat, als von Dir befuerchtet. Uebrigens meine 93-jaehrige Nachbarin war auch total angetan vom Impfen in der 'Arena' (wo immer das auch ist - ich habe immer noch nicht nachgesehen).
Chris - Deine bzw. die Katze Deiner Nachbarin ist eine wirklich ganz entzueckende Schoen- und Lieblichkeit.

Mervi, das Winterwonderland ist ueber Nacht verschwunden und nun ist alles grau regnerisch. "Das Futterdepot" in dem Finnischen Zoo ist toll und hat die Tiere sehr neugierig gemacht. Ideen muss man haben, die dann auch noch Spass machen....

Gestern war ich mit meinem Mann beim Impfen, da war eigentlich der ganze Tag blockiert. Entgegen meiner Befuerchtungen war der Ablauf im Impfzentrum sehr gut organisiert und man hat sich dort prima gekuemmert. Mein Mann sass im Rollstuhl und so konnte ich gleich durchrollen und musste nirgendswo warten. Per Taxi ging es hin und zurueck auch problemlos.

The UK authorities are not sure how long the vaccines will work for. About six to nine months has been mentioned. That could mean 4 shots per person over 18 every 12 to 18 months.
They also expext mask wearing, safe distancing and hand washing to remain essential for the foreseeable future.

The illness comes back.Some Illnesses do not go away, like flu. The vulnerable people need the vaccination each year.
EU, like the other countries, knew how far the vaccines were developed by the different companies.

But the vaccines are also only a means to protect the vulnerable and essential workers while the majority of the population will eventually catch the virus. At this point it will become a feature of life like the common cold and flu.
Because even in some healthy people who are young the virus can have long lasting symptoms, it is likely that in UK by September all people over 18 will be offered a vaccine.
I dont think the EU can be blamed for its choice of vaccines It did not seem likely last year that they would be developed so quickly or effectively.
National governments had to go with the advice of their experts. In the UK we have nt been able to make track and trace work for a variety of reasons. We also spend less on healthcare and have a less healthy lifestyle. Fortunately we are still able to afford to buy the vaccines.
I do feel some anger at the repressive government in China which tried to cover up the illness in Wuhan. It should have been quarantined much earlier. The WHO also has questions to answer.
The medical advisers have been too eager to close down the economy. The politicians too reluctant to impose quarantines and lockdowns. Australia and New Zealand may have saved lives but they are still pretty much cut off from the rest of the world. South Korea , Singapore and Taiwan have very disciplined and controled urban societies which can be tracked and tested quickly.
We must hope that President Biden and his team can move fast to put the USA back into a position to both save lives and restore its economy. But China (sorry, Trump had a point here) must be brought to account and even compensate the world for its actions in undermining the work of the WHO.

Why not? Israel, Great Britain, USA and Kanada have enough vaccine for their people. EU did not want to spend a lot of money for vaccine. Lockdown costs more and the old people die.

Dear Ludmila, I have to disagree. It is not the EU nor whatever government that is to be blamed with whatever happened in respect to the corona virus. In the beginning, just like us all, little did they know about the danger and the results. The only thing they could do was warning us and implementing restrictions to our well-known freedom. Do you think that I ever loved it??? No, never, but I respected the rules for my own safety and for others. But now, after months and other lockdowns, one should expect that all people would recognize the problem and the danger. But, OH NO! And the same is happening with regard to the vaccinations. Again, people are starting already now to blame the governments for this. Hallo, where is good common sense? Nobody can expect all countries to immediately have enough vaccination shots for everybody. For those how need it, I hope they get it soon and for those who want it to re-start their good own life, well, just wait and take your time.

Dear friends! Now Joe Biden is officially the President of the United States of America. I guess you've been watching the inauguration ceremony, too. - When JFK was elected the people all over the world felt hope. For me seeing Biden and Harris gave again a feeling of hope - for USA and for the world.
