Welcome Fall with rain!

Posted by Mervi on September 7, 2022 at 4:15 AM

Dear friends! This Summer has been extremely warm - or rather extremely hot. The nature is still suffering from the dry weather but let's hope the Fall will be more merciful!

Hello friends!
In our forest the pathways are soaked too.
Ralph, Patricia
I am glad you are here again.
It is not easy to find the cleaning personal. That's why I never try this.
I hope the puppies will stay healthy.
I find very good that the tomcat Larry does not have to be elected. :)

Chris. The Blair government between 1997 and 2010 was one of the most effective governments Britain has had at home.
The war in Iraq and Afghanistan took place after the raids in US on September 11.
Both Bush and Blair were overwhelmed by the aftermath of the raids and Blair in particular had no interest in or experience of foreign and defence policy.
He was completely out of his depth. Sadly that led to him being led as you say by what the Americans told us.
However, it should be remembered that France supplied fighter bomber jets to Iraq and Germany the chemicals and factories that Saddam used to kill the Kurds and Marsh Arabs.
But sticking to Blair. He is a tragic figure because he had otherwise been a much better leader at running things at home than Chirac or Schroeder or any of the British PMs that followed him.

Hi Ralph,
your assessment of the political situation in the UK also surprises me a bit, but I don't think that the disenchantment with politics in all age groups is as great as you describe, although it is unfortunately becoming more and more widespread.
Your comparison of reality TV shows with politics is an interesting aspect and even true with the more and more populist behavior of some politicians.

Despite your many vaccinations is still caution and mask wearing announced, especially because of the many vaccination refusers in all age groups!

PATRICIA - you are right about, that many things didn t change since the 70ties.
We only must think of the Harvey Weinstein complex - its awful what happens
in the studios today. And there are not many female directors in Hollywood.

I watch the starlings every day, when they eat the berries of the wild wine. :)

RALPH - you name Blairs time as prime minister successful - we always
called him Bushs "Huendchen", because he did all, Bush wants from him.
Especially the bad war in Iraq, built on lies of General Colin Powell...

I have the feeling, that the interest in politics has fallen in all countries.
Only the idiotic conspiracy people are growing & growing. This all has
to do with the fatal influence of lies in the internet, it makes speechless.

I had to laugh, as I heard, that Boris Johnson now is the "Hoffnungstraeger".
That will be the joke of the century ! :D :p They chased him away and now
they see, that the party has no alternatives, no real intelectual heads.

LETI - are you feeding straycats in your town - a wonderful idea ?! :)

The bike ways were soaked today. In some parts the whole way
was under water, so that we have to use the meadow nearby...
This water was needed in the summer not in fall. Unfortunately
the rain brings the leaves down very quickly, so that some
before golden trees are now empty and kahl... :(

Hi Patricia, there was a lot of news in your report, which will also be answered. First of all, I wish the puppies a speedy recovery, which apparently did not come from a less serious breeder.

Your described sun phenomenon I have never experienced, probably you could not fotograph it? The "shared" starling bath was very funny. For me, it's mainly blackbirds that like to bathe. And although there is a large pond with a shallow water zone, they prefer to bathe right next to it in a very large trivet.

Finding a good cleaner is always a matter of luck, so it's kind of a lottery. And none does it as well as you do, you have to come to terms with that.... I also have to make a lot of sacrifices with mine, but her reliability, friendliness and honesty are therefore much more important to me. I wish you good luck with your next placement.
No, you haven't missed anything if you haven't seen Soylent Green. The acting was very mediocre and the subject matter is something we are currently experiencing first hand, but god forbid without the "canibalism".
Yesterday I saw my first big crane migration this fall. Always a great experience. "Used" to see them often in the fall while gardening, now you can hardly hear them behind the double glazed windows.
I wish you a peaceful evening.

ATSCH, Ralph, now you are sounding like a “grumpy old man”.
Though I do not doubt your stand point, I can hardly believe that nowadays, only very few Britons are still interested in politics, more particularly the older ones.
The problem is twofold: first, people (wherever on earth, not only the UK, but also Belgium and so forth) are overwhelmed with information (albeit that the latter might not always be accurate and/or complete), social media, TV shows of whatever kind. Look around you and what do you see: almost everybody (irrespective their age) are running around with their iphone in their hand. I am quite sure that a lot of them even take it with them when visiting the bathroom and only Heaven knows the purpose of it.
Second, it is innate to mankind to forget and to get bored. And due to the oversaturation of all kinds of information, people start to ignore reality and in the end “History”. The old Romans already knew this: give the people bread and games.
It is funny to write it but according to me, our virtual Knuipe is a far more realistic world. Whether we agree or disagree with each other, at least we talk about a billion different things forming part of our humble daily life and we are truly interested in each other. And let us keep it like that.

What has influenced British life in the last decade has been the popularity of so called Reality TV. Shows like Strictly Come Dancing where the TV viewers can vote for contestants have joined the original Big Brother (contestants living in a house). Great British Bake off has contedtants baking cakes while Love Island has young attractive couples being voted for.
The 2016 Referendum and the 2017 and 2019 general elections were fought in a way similar to these successful shows. This has produced a shallower political debate and favours the likes of Boris Johnson.
It is hard to see the public changing and becoming more serious. The likes of Twitter and Instagram have if anything made matters worse.

Sorry about the typing mistakes in my long note below. I am doing this on my phone.
What is noticable among people here is the lack of interest in politics. Life goes on with chats about anything except politics.
Brexit for example has long since ceased to interest people. It is now just seen as something for the politicians to sort out.
Covid is another issue where most people have moved on. Lots of people of all ages still wear masks but others dont bother. I for example now rarely bother.
I have had my 4th Covid jab and my annual Flu jab. I contunue to get colds a lot but have never had flu for years.

Sadly the political problems in England are not just confined to the ruling Conservative party.
The Labour Party leader is a lawyer and former civil servant who used to be head of the Public Prosecution Service. He has very little charisma and the party is divided between the younger more left wing members who joined because of the former leader Jeremy Corbyn and the experienced former members of Tony Blair's successful 1997 to 2010 government.
The Liberal Democrat party has not recovered from its role in the 2010 to 20115 coalition with David Cameron's Conservatives. The party is much more Left wing than the German FDP lost members and votes because of its role in the Coalition.
The Conservatives have been turned sharply to the right after Nigel Farage's UKIP party collapsed in 2014 or so. This forced Cameron to agree to the Brexit referendum. The vote in 2016 led to even more right wing suoporters joining the Conservatives.
In German terms it as if the AFD collapsed and its voters joined the CDU. While the East German PDS became a key part of the SPD.
The move to the Left and Right of the two main political parties in England came about after the Blair Government's involvement in the Iraq war spoiled what had been a very good and popular government disullusioned mainstream voters.
Most people no longer join any of the political parties. Older people are more intwrested in their own lives and activuties. Younger people tend to focuse on single issues like climate change or race relations.
The result is the ghastly mess you see in Parliament.

The weather is still nice here. It is a bit cold early in the morning and late in the evening but it is warm and sunny during the day.
I try to make sure stray cats have everything they need. Fortunately it does not get too cold here.

Good afternoon Dear All, from a sunny Everbeek.
Even though we also have had our portion of rain or Madame Esther’s help (whatever you may call it), so far October has been a marvellous month just to my liking. And according to the weather forecasts, it will stay like that til the end of the month, which means, night temperature between 11 and 13°C and day between 18 and 20°C.

On Monday of this week, I witnessed something very special. I was looking outside to the sun rising and all of a sudden, a heavy rain started. But apparently, the rain clouds were only above our roofs or so and the sun turned into a deep red fire ball and still strongly shining through that rain curtain. But after a few minutes, the sun was hidden too. Well, it was quite a spectacular view, I never saw that before.
All in all, I have the feeling that we are having a very long Summer because there is nothing to make me feel of having Fall except for the colours of nature. Hopefully, we do not have to face a long Winter but that is a thing we cannot change.

Lately, I read your comments about that movie “Soylent Green”. I must confess that I never saw it and I wonder whether or not I have missed something. However, on the basis of your comments, it seems to be a typical Hollywood movie of that time. In other words, very macho. TJA, I am afraid that not much has changed ever since then, because when one is reading interviews of actors nowadays, it appears that the same rules are still valid: the reign of male white supremacy and a serious lack of respect for women and people with another skin colour or sexual orientation.

I apologize for not having been more active in writing here, but there are two reasons. First, it turned out that the two young puppies were very ill. Breeder was not so careful and during the last week, vet arrived hare, was here or just left here. At the moment, both Lola and Lizzie are eating well again and very playful, but needless to say that they still are under control of the vet and taking their daily medication. Luckily, it is not giardia.
Second, since mid June, I tried to organize cleaning aid, but so far, I was not so lucky. The first candidate delivered a wonderful service, but she didn’t like this work and found another job. And the second one was simply a disaster. She never arrived in time, well actually, it was already a miracle that she arrived and her work was very lousy. And most of all, I immediately distrusted her. Therefore, I called the cleaning agency and asked for another help. Supposed to come for the first time on October 31.

With regard to the political situation in Italy and the UK. I think that Italy has always had a preference for fascism. And if such persons are elected, it says everything and all about the people (or at least, the majority).
For the UK, it was the chronicle of an announced death. Nobody expected Ms. Truss to become the second Iron Lady. I have the feeling that the British politicians have lost the pedals since the first discussions about Brexit and they will seriously regret it. But I am sure that Ralph can give you a better view on this situation.

And to end with a pleasant note or two. On Wednesday, one of the starlings was taking a bath in the big drink pot with a lot of SPLISH SPLASH. Next to the pot was a second one waiting to drink. Well, to make a long story very short, that birdie was as wet as the one in the pot and you should have seen the window!!!! And this morning, there was a squirrel on our terrace.

Wishing you all a lovely Friday.

Good morning! Guten Morgen! The golden October is showing it's less sunny face today.

Ludmila - I mixed Yeo with 'you'. :D Hmm, am I getting totally gaga .... :D

Chris - I would certainly need a 'personal nerd' when there are problems with my 'läppi'. I just have to use the trial-and-error-system and very often it works, too - but it takes a lot of time. - What are people thinking when they vote these ultra right wing parties. Well, most probably they don't think at all. Europe is in chaos and not only because of the war. When will we ever learn????

On a Friday some cuteness is needed and that's exactly what I can offer you in KM. Gisela has again taken wonderful photos of SIZZEL, SKADI AND KAJA in Rostock.

I wish everybear and everybody a most pleasant Friday! Please, don't forget to take care of yourselves!

MERVI - Wolfsburg won 4:0 against St.Poelten.
Die Maedels aus Oesterreich waren harmlos. ;)

Rosengard played not bad yesterday, but Bayern
had the nose in front at the end - Rosengard ging
sogar in Fuehrung, aber dann kam nichts mehr. ;)

Der neue PC ist ein Quantensprung, der Alte war
so langsam geworden. Zum Glueck habe ich einen
guten PC-Doktor, der zu mir nach Hause kommt. :)

Its bad, that the right wing party is in the government.
In Italy they also have meetings about the new prime-
minister Melloni (the crazy girl). I don t think,
that this coalition will last long...
The european project is in danger!
Macron in France also have problems
with never ending demonstrations on
the streets of Paris...
