Summer time and the living should be easy ...

Posted by Mervi on June 17, 2021 at 3:40 PM

Dear friends! The Summer should be time for leisure and relaxation. Even this year we can't lead a normal Summer life but we can try to make the best of it!

Knut had a fishy meal = publication in honour
of KNUTs 179th monthly birthday on the 5th of November 2021

How nice this remembrance publication with gorgeous KNUTphotos by Gudrun and interesting story from Mervi about KNUTs eating and relaxation program is! . . . I love especially the last photo with KNUT sitting on his sand throne in full relaxation.

Good Afternoon.

I hope that everyone is well.

I have spent the last 5 weekends in Muskoka. My friend and I finally completed the renovation to one of his buildings. New panelling, floor, electrical wiring and fixtures, toilet and sink and water supply line. The septic line will get connected next year. We all managed to catch some of the Olympic events, especially swimming and men's and women's track. Many of those races were exciting to watch. On Wednesday he and his family headed back to California and should be home tomorrow after a few stops along the way.

My mom has had some difficulties with her speech lately. The difference in her abilities was startling within one week. The doctor thinks that she had a small stroke that damaged the language center of her brain. An MRI and visit to a geriatric specialist has been arranged and he has prescribed some medication that should help. It could also be the beginning of some form of dementia. I'm having her and my brothers over for a visit tomorrow. We'll try to keep things as normal as possible for her.

It has been a wet, hot and humid summer this year. The last 10 days it felt like 40C. Today it is noticeably cooler at 22C but it is a pleasant day. This morning I went for a long walk through the woods. Then I answered some emails from my German cousin regarding the property sales. Both houses have now been sold so the inheritance journey is almost complete. Later today I'll walk to the grocer to get a steak and BBQ for dinner tonight. I haven't been able to BBQ in over 6 weeks.

Rumour has it that our idiot Prime Minister will call an election this fall. His polling numbers have already dropped 5 points since the story broke. No one wants an election when we are on the verge of a fourth Covid19 wave. He has 2 years left on his present mandate as minority government so Canadians are not amused at his move to try to get a majority government. I hope he suffers from the backlash and is booted out, or at least gets another minority.

My cardiac rehabilitation program has now ended. I am feeling good, but I notice that my breathing is affected by the really hot, humid weather when walking. This is new to me. I have to keep up my fitness regimen, which has faltered a little since my schedule has been all over the place during travelling to Muskoka and Manitoulin Island.

This month I begin my job search. I only want to work another 2 or so years. Then retire with maybe a part time job to keep me busy and provide beer money. :).

I wish all of you a pleasant Saturday evening.

Britta-Gudrun - I like that Knut photo very much, too.

Chris - I wish you a pleasant tour and hope you will meet many of your feathered friends.

Ralph - Have a good time with your human and feline friends!

Dumba - Sometimes KWM loads very slowly but if you try again a little later it usually works fine. I think I must delete some stuff because the site is getting 'too heavy'.

Ludmila - I'm lifting my hat for Katharina! What a challenging day she had and she made it!

Sorry, DEARs and especially Mervi who is understandably so much disappointed, I cannot enter KWM anymore, not via a click under the latest Knuipe-Thread nor via my stored Link 'knutisweekly.com'

Mervi + Britta-Gudrun and who aver may feel concerned in addition:
I am really sorry I don't write anymore on a regular basis. It is not that I really don't want but that it teke me more and more time to get things done that I first have to menage the things of daily life - and after that I am normally more tired than 'Gott erlaubt' ;-)

Mervi Good afternoon from Kidlington
The UK is an hour behind the Continent so my posts are
usually out of time with everyone else's.
I was out a lot last week again and will be out tomorrow.
I am staying over night till Monday with my friends.
They are soon hoping to get two new Burmese kittens
to join their three cats. They have a large garden and live in beautiful countryside.
I was in Berlin with my parents as a five year old just before the Berlin Wall went up in 1961. I still have a Berlin Zoi guide from thst year and a plastic toy Berlin bus.
Knut was a symbol of the unification of the city. Tosca came from East Germany and Lars from West Berlin.
It is over thirty years since unification. A longer time than my visit in 1961 and working there in 1987.
Life in Oxford is almost back to normal. Many people still wear masks especially on buses. But pubs and cafes are working well.
Sadly there are still no direct trains from Oxford to Doncaster.
Last September the park was still easy to walk round. Now it has doubled in size and the two Polar Bear enclosures are a long way from the entrance and each other. The other problem is that the entrance has moved to connect with the motorway.
This is great for families with cars but for me it makes the taxi journey longer and the motorway often jams up at going home time.
Flocke and her cubs have a lovely large enclosure. But it does need a binoculars or zoom lense. Also they spend a lot of time in the den like Raspi used to.
They did this in Marineland too but they
were closer to the visitors.
Luckily we have such great photos of them now.

Es ist sehr heiß heute.
Ich war mittags am Ruderverein.
Jetzt bin ich wieder im kühlen Haus.
Abends wird es eine größere Tour geben.

MERVI - es war sicher nicht förderlich, dass
die Knuipe so lange geschlossen war. Habe

Britta-Gudrun - Everybody was hoping that our Knuipe would work again but now that it works it's been almost empty for several days. Uncle Sergej is disappointed because he has to drink all his 'creations' himself. :D

Well, I wish everybody a cosy Saturday anyway!

Britta-Gudrun - I was about 10 years old when the wall was build. I remember my mother telling me about it. Of course, I didn't quite understand the meaning of it then .... In the year 1985 was the first time I saw the wall and the next time I visited Berlin it was gone. So much has happened during our life time.

Ludmila - I hope the weather will be fine tomorrow!

Guten Morgen!

Oh bear, it's Friday the 13th today! Well, we're not superstitious ... or are we .... :D

Ludmila - I just checked the courses for swimming, biking and running and I went out of breath by just reading. Katharina is a real IRONWOMAN!!!

Good morning! Guten Morgen!

Ralph - Sometimes I see the 'objects' better in my photos than while visiting a zoo - thanks to a good lense in my camera. :D - It's great we can follow the bachelor quarted and Flocke's trio in Sheila's and Philip's photos. Contacting them was a real jackpot for KWM!

Ludmila - I wish you, Uwe and Katharina a great day in Finland!

GERDA AND KAI had a little argument in the morning but towards afternoon they were best friends again. You can see Arkadi's photos in KWM now.

Have a pleasant Friday and a good start of the weekend - and take care!

A lot to read in the Knuipe and KWM tonight. The weather
is starting to warm up here. But it is already dark by 2100 and Autumn is only two weeks away.
Ludmila and Uwe will be sure to bring us lovely photos from
Last year I was with Flocke and her trio in their lovely.French home. In particular I could play with little Tala at the glass.
Now they have a much wider enclosure and a lake rather than a plunge pool. This is great for the cubs now they are bigger.
But you.do need a zoom.lense or binoculars to seem them as they rarely come close than thirty metres.
Fortunately many more photos appear of them in Doncaster than we had from Antibes.
