Dear friends! It's already Midsummer so I thought it's time for a new thread. Let's hope the rest of this Summer will bring us pleasant temperatures instead of the extreme heat or awful storms!

MERVI - I am shure, we´ll have more traffic in the Knuipe
if the holiday season is over. I hope, you´ll have enough
patience till then - how about a Betthüpferl ?

Ralph - Thank you for the encouriging words about Knutitours! Because I know many zoo keepers read KWM I want to believe it plays a tiny part in the zoos' efforts to be better. I'm sure the positive reports have better effect than criticism by people who never visit any zoo but think they are experts.

I have been re-visiting Knut's Diary in Hartmuths World of Animals. I had saved some of this material already but am trying to make sure that I have the key periods stored.
The period just before Knut's death in March 2011 is especially sad to read as it did look like he was coming to terms with the ladies, especially his mother. Like all history I find myself wishing that things had been different.
Knut's legacy is in the improved places for Polar Bears like Rostock and Munich and in the interest that is shown in the Polar Bear. Especially, though Knutis Weekly is unique as the only truly international website dealing with Polar Bears and other animals in Zoos in the spirit of the community created by Knut. There are of course other excellent websites dedicated to Knut, but the combination of the Knuipe and Knutis Weekly is very special. I am sure Hartmuth and Doris Webb would have agreed.

Ralph - I love the Syrian brownies, too and it would be great if there were more of them in good zoos.

Chris - The rain has stopped here so maybe the 'Midsummerers' can have their traditional celebrations outdoors anyway.

Britta-Gudrun - You're right, our greatest concern for the time being is Mimmi. She refuses to eat. We managed to feed her with a tiny portion food and spray some water in her mouth. We agreed with our vet that he will see Mimmi tomorrow if she hasn't eater properly before tomorrow morning. Maybe the 'Mimmi like' behaviour is anyway a little step to the right direction. We must be optimistic!

GUTEN TAG

MERVI
Thank you for the new thread.
Knut in the bubble is lovely. :)
I cross my fingers for Mimmi.

We have the cooler and windy weather now.
Tomorrow there will be a Johannisfeuer. :)
If its dry, we´ll visit the midsummer party

Reading the report from Munster I am very worried that there are so few young Syrian brown bears in Zoos or Parks. Their homeland is a dangerous place and they must be very endangered. I would love to see some be brought to parks in Europe.

Good morning! Guten Morgen! Dear fluffy angel - it's raining heavily. I don't mind but I feel sorry for those who have planned some outdoor activities today.

Mimmi has eaten very little but at least she's behaving more 'Mimmi like' than yesterday. Please, continue to keep your fingers crossed for her.

Teddybärenmutti - Congratulations for being number one on this Midsummer thread! Uncle Sergej and Madame Nini have prepared a picnic basket for your with all kinds of yammy things: potato sallad, smoked salmon, three kinds of herring, roast beef, strawberries and, of course, a magnum bottle of champagne. The good thing is you don't have to go out - you can enjoy this picnic indoors!! :D

Yeo - I know Dartmoor only from many books and movies - most of them rather scary. I'm very curious to hear what you think of the moors. Have a great day!

Britta-Gudrun - I must say I'm really enjoying the bad weather which for me is the good weather. :D

In KWM you can enjoy MoniK's report from the 'Allwetterzoo Münster'. As you know she made the traditional zoo tour even this Summer and Münster was one of the destinations.

I wish everybody a pleasant Midsummer Eve even though it's not so much celebrated outside Finland and Sweden. :D

Good morning dear all!

Dear Mervi!
Thank you very much for the new thread! The photos are very charming.
