Dear friends! Soon it's time for new polar bear babies to enter the world. I'm sure we are all very excited while waiting for the news from many different zoos. Let's keep our fingers crossed for the polar moms, their cubs and, of course, for all the keepers! I hope we can have many 'welcome to the world parties'!

In der Knuipe duftet es schon nach frischem Kaffee. Da waren wohl die Heinzelmaennchen am Werk. Das finde ich gut. Dann bediene ich mich mal. Vielleicht gesellt sich noch jemand dazu?

Ludmila - well I think that the blue barrel requires a Nikolaus Sock in the appropriate size, hahaha. Thanks, the knusband is well.

Mervi - here comes a big pot of hot Friday coffee to warm up. In M. it is sunny but pretty cold.

PATRICIA -- Perhaps you are right....but even PETA is saying that there was no other option in the circumstances. But the important thing is, like MERVI said, that the importation and sale of exotic animals should be stopped everywhere. Apparently Ohio has the worst record in the U.S. in this regard.
Anyway, you are having problems with Gust and Flurk peeing. I am having problems with Sam and his diarrhea although he tries very hard to be careful. Guess we have a vet trip in our very near future.

Sarsam - What happened has happened and our 'judgements' can't make it undone. The sad truth is - and this goes for all the countries in the world - that the 'solution' almost always is killing animals. I only hope the import of exotic animals and allowing private people keep them will be forbidden everywhere.

Crissi - You're right, sometimes I would like to close my eyes and ears but, of course, we can't close our eyes from the cruel reality - not all the time at least..... That's why we need an oasis like our Knuipe where we can relax.

Vor ein paar Tagen habe ich mir selber den: "Miss-Mobilat-Award" verliehen, weil ich im Office, als ich im Aktenschrank ganz unten was suchte, die Balance verloren habe und mit den Knien und dem Kopf in den offenen Schrank gefallen bin und mir dabei etwas den Knoechel verdreht habe. Es hat so gescheppert, das mein Zimmernachbar gedacht hat, wir haetten in Goettingen ein Erdbeben. Als er dann spaeter wieder meine zarte Stimme vernommen hat und merkte, dass ich auf den Beinen bin, hat er sich halb tot gelacht.
Einen Tag lang konnte ich schlecht auftreten und habe mir fleissig den Fuss eingecremt und heute ist es wieder besser. IC war nicht im Spiel, ich hatte mich nur an einem Drehstuhl abgestuetzt und der war dabei weggerollt und so bin ich nach vorn gefallen. Soviel zum Thema Award!
TBM: Hast Du eigentlich die Karte fuer Astrid und Lars gesehen? War die Meute zu Besuch?

Sarsam, I have read that entire article and also the information about the lapse of law, the fact that for many years, this person could keep these animals, the authorities who looked the other way, etc., but nevertheless, I am still convinced that more and better attempts should have been made to avoid this slaughtering. And sorry to bring it so cruel: but give certain men a gun, they for sure will fire whether or not there is a necessity. And the fact that this Mr. Hanna was there or not or gave an inteview or not or took three remaining animals to Columbus Zoo or not, is definitely not of a nature to make me silent. They are all to blame, from A to Z. Given the short time span during which all these animals were killed and already buried is not giving me the impression that many efforts were made.
Heute ist mal wieder so ein Tag, wo man den Fernseher lieber ausläßt.

PATRICIA and All -- I am disgusted too about the exotic animal killings in Ohio. BUT, the ones I am disgusted with are (1) the "owner" who let the animals go, (2) the authorities who looked the other way during the last several years when this man was "doing his thing," and (3) the Governor and legislature of the state of Ohio that allowed the lapse of a law preventing importation of exotic animals I feel only deep sorrow for the deputies who had to shoot the animals--they were placed in a no-win situation along with the animals. Jack Hanna (remember him visiting Lu-Lu in Alaska?) who is a respected Director emeritus of the Columbus Zoo was there the whole time and was interviewed about this horrific tragedy afterwards. PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE ARTICLE BEFORE YOU PASS JUDGEMENT on the sheriff's deputies for shooting the animals. Broken link

Dear All, have you just heard me yelling MEEEERVIIII !!!! Well, little Gust was showing one of his bad habits (learned from Flurk unfortunately), namely peeing on their special cat cushions. Oh my, I have to wash these cushions every two days thanks to these two. By the way, they all are eating and eating. Most probably because of the sudden cold, they ned their engine burning.
Bea, have a good weekend and I hope that you will bring us a report or so.
Yesterday afternoon, in Brussels, we had kind of our first snow (rain with melted snow, BBBRRRR) and today, I couldn't have it warm.

Bea - you really should travel light. Above it it will be a burden.
