Dear friends! Many of you have already had your vacation, some of us in the middle of the 'freedom' and some lucky guys still have something to look forward to. I hope everybody's having a pleasant summer and I'm very happy to share some holiday greetings with you. Teddybärenmutti has kindly forwarded cards to Knuti's Weekly:

EVA -- Do you know any TV or newspaper reporters? I'll bet the insurance company would hurry up if your story appeared in the newspaper or on a segment of TV news. There is something very wrong here--how about contacting AARP for assistance? As Mervi and Caren have said, it is good to see you still in fighting spirits! Sending you many hugs.....

Eva - is this really possible? I mean a severe problem with the neck should be under immediate treatment, whether a surgery or another treatment. I really hope your doctor and yourself together light a big fire under the insurance.
As I said before, in Germany this would never be possible, and people are still complaining that the insurances do not do enough.
Would it also help writing about your own case to the health ministry?
Please keep up your "fighting spirits". All the best for you.
Thank you for telling us that Sarah is well.
I wish you a lot of success.

Eva - Oh no, this is beginning to sound like a very bad joke! How can this kind of treatment of people be possible? - However, even if you're upset and disappointed you still have your fighting spirits and even are concerned of other's safety. That's the Eva we know and love! I wish you strength to cope even with this disappointment.

Hallo to Alle!
It is so hot here, I believe I am now living in Hell! Yesterday it was 105 degrees and that was actual temp, not with heat index added. Everything is so dry and dying, it's so horrible outside. The drought is now killing the trees as well as the grass, plants and now some animals. I wonder if and when it will end and we will get plenty of rain!!!
Well, you won't believe this but I DID NOT see the Doctor on Tuesday. His office called and cancelled because they were only authorized to see me one time. They told me that if I wanted to pay for the visit he would be glad to see me. I said "NO! It's not my place to pay for this!" So, now I do not know what the next step is other than to contact the insurance office once again and try to "light a fire" under them. My Doctor, Dr. Bass, once again stressed to me how bad my neck is and how important it is to have it fixed soon. I suggested that he contact the insurance company and stress to them these facts once again. So, I'll keep you posted on everything. I am so disgusted and just so depressed over this. Here I was thinking I'd be all healed up and ready to go back to visit Retta but looks like that will be a while before that happens. UGH!!!
I wanted to let everyone know that Sarah is safe in London! I got an e-mail from her saying that things were bad in London but she and her family were safe.
I brought a few snacks for this evening. There is some fried chicken, mashed potatoes, rich, cream gravy, turnip greens, cornbread and a peach cobbler. There is also some homemade vanilla ice cream to put on your peach cobbler. So, enjoy and stay cool!
Hugs to my dear Family at the Die Knuipe!!!

Dumba - Mervi - never believe the press or you get lost :(

Mervi - I am a bit puzzled because I thought you are an expert when it comes to knitting. My imagination was knitting with one hand, editing with the other. I must be wrong.
But Nalle and Mimmi would really be extremely helpful.

Dumba - I always rather see the original press release than an article written on basis on it by a journalist. How can they always have so many interpretations of the same thing? Well, one thing's for sure - the polar girl is in Berlin and it remains to be seen what will happen in the next few weeks.

Caren - I would like to see what would happen if I tried to knit. I'm sure Mimmi and Nalle would be extremely helpful ! :D

Sarsam - The squirrels do a lot of damage but who can possibly be angry at them. They are so funny!

Re: Polar Bear Girl in FRIEDRICHSFELDE

Take two Berlin Newspapers of different style,
and it's guarateed you have two truths as well.

This article, obviously published yesterday now says
that the polar bear girl indeed was thought as playmate
for KNUT when he was still alive but this was not the
real reason. The aim was to get her together with TROLL
in order to mate with him, when she is ready for it in appr. 2 years.
They say respectively Mrs Bienek says, it's also possible
that Troll will go to the three ladies in the Zoo Berlin in order
to mate with them!!??
It's planned not to show her in public before two weeks are over.
I wouldn't bed so - Zoo and Tierpark are always good for
unexpected surprises!
BTW: AIKA is called EIKA in the article. Eyes roll a bit . . .

MERVI and CAREN -- Yup, everything about little "L" is cute--from "stem to stern" but I still think the hairdo is his best feature at the moment :-)))

VELVET -- Snezhinka (38 years old in Kaliningrad) looks very good! She moves a little slowly, but seems to be doing well! And it is always fun to see photos of Corinna and Anton--Jens' comments were hilarious too!!

MERVI -- We will have to knit lots and lots of caps--squirrels seem to think everything should be chewed. Right now the gray squirrels in our yard have taken a liking to our clothes lines--they don't seem to use them for nesting--just chewing. We have to take the lines down between washings and dryings or risk having the lines gnawed in two!!

Caren - Everything about little 'L' is so cute! The eyes, the hairdo, the trunk..... I didn't know Olga will be the last brown bear in Hellabrunn. I guess I have to hurry! - By the way, are you by any chance knitting? :D

Good Evening, Dear All!

Thank you all for your kind words for the Hellabrunn Saga :D

Mervi&Sarsam - well, the hairdo is so funny as is the little Elephant. Did you notice he had grown quite a lot? Did you notice his big eyes? When Auntie Steffi stopped him running away "from school" it was like an ABS-Breaking-System. I was amazed about the strength which was in the paralysed trunk. Most funny.

Mervi - Lady Olga is really waiting for your visit. As far as I am informed she will be the last brownbear in TP Hellabrunn.

ralph - I am glad to hear that Oxford is quiet up to now. Hope it will remain.
It is sometimes teasing in films to judge about the size of an animal. I have never realized a difference in size. Giovanna is not a very tall polar bear lady. And the difference in age is only seven days.

crissi - I am a bit puzzled that the Russian Zoo gave her already a name. Usually they don't when the bear will be given away to another Zoo. But Bjelka is a nice name. She might have the same good character as her sister VERA.
Yes, she was on a long journey, but remember Raspi from Moscow at the age of 12 months, he came by plane to Frankfurt and then had to wait quite some time until he could continue with his journey to Nuremberg, because the documents were incomplete.

Eva - my thoughts are with you for your next appontment with the doctor. I am sending a big load of positive vibes so that you can go home with a definite result and solution.
The hair of little "L" is rather hard than soft, otherwise they would not stand up :D

Dumba - I was very delighted when you mentioned the rhinos. These creatures are really amazing. They look so ancient, and they have a kind of beauty.

Velvet - so nice to meet you here again. You are right, "Kaspar" for a Giraffeboy is .... na ja :D
Congratulations to the lovely Wilhelma.
Jens' pics of the two fluffy friends in Stuttgart are again too nice.

Hope to have access to KWM now, I would like to learn about the knitting action. :D

Knuti-Judi - Sweet little Lu Lu - I think she's just about ready to meet her fan club!

Ralph - What a charming book! - Jacqueline Bisset and Jerry Hall are real Southern Belles but I guess they are too old.... :D

Crissi - Bjelka or Belinka could be suitable names - I can already hear us singing 'Belinka, Belinka, Belinka moja' :D

Hello all The sun has started shining again here after the rain.

Fortunately apart from one incident near a housing estate we have been quiet in
Oxford, and nothing at all where we live. So that is good.

Just been buying things in the market and found a lovely children's book

http://www.scholastic.ca/titles/themidnightbear/

about a polar bear cub

I love the fact that Lumikki has a Southern drawl. She is a fine lady now and
will be soon shaking out her fan and going "Fiddle di di" like Scarlett in "Gone
with the Wind". I think Julia Roberts can also do a Southern accent but I am not
sure which Hollywood actresses these days can do it really well. Katherine Hepburn
and Bette Davis in the old days. Ava Gardner I think as a genuine Southern Belle, but am
probably wrong.
I was watching Knuti with Gianna on Panda Gorilla and co again this morning before coming out. It is noticable that Knuti is smaller than her despite being the older of the
two (I think by a few months). Size matters for Polar bears.
I am also watching the Tudors about Henry VIII late at night on BBC with Mother Ursula.
Although the actors are much younger than the real people in appearance I think they do
a really good job of telling the story. Anne of Cleves is played by Joss Stone, who is British born American and does a good job of conveying Ann's horror at the state of Henry's leg. He in turn finds her clumsy and provincial. Ms Stone shows this by being very shy.

Will be reading all as usual but not posting until tomorrow.

Semper Knut

Lou Zoo says:

"We added hay and an ice bin to bear alley today for Qannik. She's still acclimating."

Lu Lu says:

"Just spent more time in bear alley. Getting ready. Saw my reflection today. They put in hay, ice and buckets galore!"
