Dear friends, at the moment I'm mourning my lovely cat Miffe and have no strength or energy to be very active or creative.  I need your help! Please, don't hesitate to send me articles and photos you think could be published in Knutitours or in Knuti's Weekly. Everything counts!

I'm trying to look forward to Knuti's birthday. I'm sure it will help me to focus - at least temporarily - on something else than my own sadness.

Once again I want to thank you all for your warm, comforting greetings to Vesa and me. They have been such a great consolation for us.

Bear hugs to you all from Mervi

Since we have a new thread there's also a new story. Raspi-patatje has contacted Patricia and you can see the result here:

Hello dearies,
I will sound repetitive when I say my time is occupied. Let's see in how many ways I can say the same thing.
Well for starters yes Luisa my audition is much better, I got help.
How is my mr. Fluffy doing? Please I need your hugs badly, and I'll have some milk and a cookie. Gio, it's so clean in here, the floors swiped, the bar swiped, and no crumbs even. Now we don't have even that. But that's ok, I like clean.
Mervi's waking up, I can hear steps and gravel moving on the leading pathway to our Knuipe.
I totally forgot to tell you about my moms new cats. Well not exactly new, Franek has been mentioned but not his brother. Gosh forgot his name now, but the important thing is both are the exact opposite of each other like Peppers and Shakers. Franek is completely black, totally pitch black, and his younger brother (3 months difference) is completely milk white. They love each other a lot, and make a lot of noise and trouble for my mom and sister.
Kept forgetting to tell you. I'll remember the white kitty's name and will tell you next time.

Hugs to alles,
Leaf

Good evening folks!

Sarsam
I do not know the name of the bird. I found the colour beautiful too.

The idea with many meat balls is good. Minka will be delighted. Today we went the hardest way.

Hello Everyone!

LUDMILA -- In your series of photos from Wuppertal, do you know the name of the bird that is marked "DSC0368"? It sure is a beautiful color! When you said the arras were outside, I thought you meant they were outside IN their enclosure--not completely outside. Amazing!!

PATRICIA -- You are a good person to try to help your neighbor. K-J is well qualified to give you advice--I could have used her advice back in the l980's when my mother was addicted to alcohol, cigarettes, and at least two tranquilizers. I hope you are successful in your attempt.

FILOMENA -- When I suggested Amazon, I had forgotten all about the library! Of course CELINNE is right that the library would be the first choice--the books are free and you can have them for several weeks at a time. Sam and his ladies meow "best greetings" to Mimi and Bubi!

MERVI and ALL OTHER BERLIN GOERS -- I hope you are leaving room in your suitcases for lots of hugs and kisses from us "left behinders" !!

Bear hugs to all, Sarsam

Liebe Mervi!
Hick. Ich habe morgen frei. Njaa Am Abend sollen wir Lehrer´s sog. "klein Weihnachten feiern". Es bedeutet knut essen und trinken. Warhscheinlich auch Herr Weihnachtsmann begruesst uns. Voriges Jahr war Herr Weihnachtsmann unser Rektor. Wahrscheinlich hatte er Angst vor seiner Rolle. Er war so beschoffen. Hahaaa. Er ist sehr nett an uns gewesen. Wir sollen nur "gute Weihnachten" sagen.. hihhiii.

Patricia - A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down - what a pity the cats don't know that :-)

Teddybärenmutti - Jetzt geniessen wir unsere Irish oder Rüdesheimer Kaffee und plaudern...

Lieber Herr Ober, liebe Frl. Flocke, liebe Signorina Gianna. lieber Herr Kuenstler Raspi.

Hahhaaaa.

Good evening, Dear All,
Thanks God, only one more working day tomorrow and then we have weekend again (to do all our work in the house, of course).
Dear Knuti-Judi, I have sent you an e-mail to your mailbox.
Dear Ludmila, giving a cat medicaments with immediate success is almost a miracle. I think that it is easier with a dog. But I am afraid that cats are having a special sense to discover that there are medicaments around. And especially when they are used to eat only dry food it is very difficult. One of the tricks I used was crushing the pill and put meat around it, call all other cats and give them a little meat ball first so that the victim in question is definitely wanted his portion as well. However, sometimes, they eat the meat and spit out the rest or ignore it. The hardest way of course is simply grabbing the cat by the neck, take her on the lap, open her/his mouth and put the pill in the back of his throat so that the only thing left for the cat is to swallow. Needless to say that most cats do not appreciate this very direct treatment. But some beef or chicken afterwards by way of reward can help them to forgive you for 5 seconds. The problem with me is that I have many cats. So, in such circumstances, the other cats do recognize the stress and remember it forever. And that is also the reason that if they have to take antibiotics, I have an agreement with my vet that in case they really refuse the medicaments, she comes and gives them a shot that is working for about 48 hours. I know that this is a rather expensive manner (although she is making then a special price), but the main goal ? cat having the antibiotics or whatever medicament that can be given in this way ? is reached.
And now, I am hungry and need food !!!

Hello friends! Dear Waiter - I think I need an Irish coffee with lots of whisky! Oh, you have already prepared it - how thoughtful of you!

Filomena - I hope you'll find some good books in your library.

Patricia - Your little Rapunzel seems to have a srong ego :-) - I'd like to give you some good advice but I know how difficult it is to help a person who doesn't realize he/she is having serious problems. I hope you can find a way.

Knuti-Judi - big hugs to you. I hope Al is feeling OK.

Annemarie - I feel the same. I have noticed lately that I'm not 20 years young anymore.

Ludmila - I loved the video of Jerka.

Teddybärenmutti - Kohta ollaan taas Berliinissä!!

I wish everybody a pleasant evening/morning/day - whatever time of day you're having.

Luisa:
You missed me? Oh, unfortunately I am too busy especially at work. But everything is fine. You know, I am an old woman and sometimes I am very tired in the evenings. This weekend my husband will come back from his 4 weeks vacation. During this time I wanted to do so many things at home and I did nothing. I hope I will not get in trouble.

Liebe Grüße an alle,
Annemarie

I am glad to hear from you again. It is very hard situation with your neighbour. It is very difficult to help the people and to find the way to do that. My experiences are only with our both sons as they were about 16 years old. It was very hard time for us, but it gone with the time better and better. Unfortunately you can not expect with your neighbour the same.

Luisa, Sarsam
In zoo Wuppertal the polar bears enclosure is not very good. I think it is the worst of all enclosures there. I hope, if the zoo will get some money, they will build something better for the polar bears. Lars and Jerka look healthy and frolic. The keepers are nice. I think we have no reason to worry about them.
Next to polar bears is a small house with the very nice arras. I was surprised that they were outside in the afternoon. They were on the tree in the freedom. They do not fly away.
There is a big house for the exotic birds too. Here is Hyazintara

they live together and are only some month old but really big. I was surprised.

Our Ryzik is a pedigree cat. As a small cat he was only interested on dry food. My knusband was delighted because Ryzik did not steal the food from table, he did not beg for our food. Our old Charles was a thief and a beggar. He was interested on all our food, sometimes for apples too. It was no problem to give him his medicine. Now my knusband knows how nice it was with Charles. Ryzik ate the meet ball after not less than three hours of pleading of me. Today we will by some fresh meat for him. Minka is outside now, so I hope Ryzik will eat his diet food.
We get equipment for the medications from vet. We have tried but failed. Ryzik spat the pill.

The cat from our daughter is still pregnant. At the weekend is our daughter at the competition. He brought the cat to vet. I hope the cat get the cubs at the weekend, she has a support from vet. My daughter is afraid about the cat and the cubs. The vet said she will do caesarean too in case of need.

I know hummingbird from the quiz in my childhood. It was often the question: What is the smallest bird in the world? I have never seen the hummingbird alive before.

Good morning, dear Waiter....hugs and coffee, please....Danke....

Mervi, You are so right about Knuti.....he has been a miracle in so many ways....sometimes I can't wrap my mind around all that has changed for me all because of a little bear......

caren, I am so glad you will be in Bearlin for Knuti's birthday; it is so magical; enjoy!

Ludmila, I am going to go check out your pictures now; so glad Lars is happy. And what fun that you saw a hummingbird; aren't they amazing?

Luisa, Thanks for the panda pictures. A guy in China has taught a panda bear to walk like a human....not sure what I think about this....but they are sure cute....

Patricia, My advice (if you haven't already done this) is to be straight forward and honest and express your concern for her drinking and pill taking. This is a very dangerous combination and she needs help. The problem here is when someone refuses help, often people are left to watch someone self-destruct. Is there any family who can intervene? Her doctor needs to be alerted. If there are family and friends who are willing to help, one way is an "Intervention." This is a gathering with the person and each participant expresses their concern to her (with specific details of concern). The objective of the gathering is to encourage the person to accept help and treatment. A plan should be in place as to what that help would be (she requires a medical "detox" and in-patient treatment at a substance abuse facility). Good luck and email me for any further discussion: judylydecker@msn.com. xo k-j

Good afternoon, Dear All, sorry for being rather absent this week, but first I have a lot of work in the office and furthermore, I am very worried about one of our ?neighbours club?. Since quite some time, she is taking too much pills and too much alcohol and too less decent food. For months now, I have tried to block this self-destruction but at this very moment, I am loosing the contact with her. Whatever I do (whether inviting to come to my house for dinner, to arrange that she is having cat food, calling her to have a chat every now and then), it all fails. It is as if I am talking to the wall. She doesn?t want to come for dinner, she doesn?t want to talk, and I hope from the bottom of my soul that she is still feeding her cats. And she also refuses now to come to the neighbours? gatherings. I am now trying to find out on how to get her out of this vicious circle. So therefore, if you have some good advice, please let me have it.

Here in Belgium, actually we cannot complain about the weather. In the beginning of the week, there was rain (but mostly during the night) (although the weekend has been horrible). But since the last days, it is rather sunny, nice temperature and sometimes quite windy. In any event, considering that it is November and that Winter is coming closer, it doesn?t making sense to complain about the weather. We know what we can expect because it is that season of the year. Of course, the nights are getting chillier and the stray cats come now more often in the house. And this year, Witje has definitely confiscated the little box under the table outside. And even though it is outside, it is out of rain and wind and filled with lots of pillows and towels.

And the more and more, Rapunzel is finding her way and place in my house. Yesterday, she jumped on the back of Flurk. Who then stared at her as if he wanted to ask ?are you mad !!!!?. You must know that Rapunzel maybe weighs 500 grams and Flurk is about 10 kg.

And now back to business.

Thanks, Ludmila--I took the opportunity to look at all 492 of your photos--wonderful! Yes, yes, "poor Lars" had to go to that too small enclosure...hahahaha. I don't know how "poor Lars" could look any happier!! He is absolutely having a fantastic time at Wuppertal. Obviously he appreciates deep pools of water and toys and a female companion that likes to play also!! Great photos, Ludmila. So they have a baby tapir too. And snowy owls--beautiful. And I wonder what bird that is that has the almost maroon-colored and white feathers--absolutely lovely. I also enjoyed all the different colored and shaped fish--every animal looks so healthy and happy. Is that you watching the keepers giving Lars and Jerka the ice bombe?
