Hello friends! After lots of problems our Knuipe is hopefully open again. I'm very impressed by you guys - you come through the chimney if necessary! The Waiter has promised to take care of your bags and purses while you're climbing the ladder! He wants to be sure your treats to him won't end up in the chimney!

There's a little midsummer story by Herr Ober, too.

Midsummer 2009

Patricia has now written her report from Berlin and what a charming report it is:

Good morning all!
Leaf, Paula
Our polar bear family grows. First was only Knut, and then came Flocke. Today we have Raspy, Wilber und Ewe. I love them all.
100 degree is very hot. We were in Springfield MO last summer und it was 104 Degree. It was terrible outside. We are not adapt for such hotness. I think you can do with cold Knutsteiner!

Mervi, Caren
I hope you can drink hot coffee with me later

Sarah: good to hear the Gang are still up to tricks!

Sarsam: thank you for the description of your lovely part of the world, the kind of place a city person like me loves to escape to!! (except for the bugs, but we have lots of those here too.)

I'm happy to hear those of you are enjoying some pleasant summer weather. But Leaf, your heat sounds all too familiar to me (I actually don't look forward to our summer)- I think 100F is about 38C. Bad when the AC is not working properly (I'm starting to think of our city train service on this one, oh dear, this type of summer is not good...) *But*, an afternoon storm! I absolutely love it when one builds up, you can feel it in the air, I love being outside while it's approaching, looking at the darkness of the clouds, and smelling the freshness in the air! They bring such relief after a bad day! Now....Herr Waiter, a jug of iced water for Leaf, and anyone else feeling the heat.

I love Raspi too. All our ("fictional") characters have such cute personas, which is why we love them. I imagine him as mischievous, loves his vodka, chubby. I do love the imagined Flocke, "bathed in pink" (I love this expression ! and because she's so pretty and girly. If her persona could be real, and she were smaller, (say, the size of my golden retriever Poppy), I would like her to live at my house. (no, don't laugh..) ( *What's that you say Poppy? summer would be too hot and humid for her here? You're not jealous are you?*)

Hello my dear Knuipians,
it is so endearing of Raspi to be this little porky (Celinne's description), crusty on the outside, softy on the inside, loud singing, mischevious, drink gulping, little cutie polar bear. Yes we do love you Raspi, something we didn't expect to be honest.
We love each and every one of our bears dearly. They are all one cute family in our little fairy world.
It's been very hot here too Mervi, over 100 degrees F, not sure how much Celsius that is, but I was almost suffocating in my apt, next to the boiler room and on the top floor (heat tends to rise to the top). AC wasn't working well in this situation even on the highest cold and fan. But then a storm came in the afternoon and a cool wind dispersed the heat within half an hour. It feels so good now.
I'll be a little busy so I might not have the time to come here as much, but I'll always be back, no worries.
BH to alles and wishes of a wonderful weekend,
Leaf

Good evening dear Knuipianer!
Mervi
It is interesting about Miffe as barometer. Our cats are afraid of thunderstorm, but they are not restles before.

Caren
We have elderberry in our garden. I will make the juice. The berries are not mellow yet.

Bea
We had no sunshine today, only drizzle.

Sarsam
Our Charles was fighter and hunter. He came from animal shelter and caught the squirrel on the first day at us. My knusband grubed out all hazelnut bushes. So we have no squirrels in garden.

Caren -- Oh boy, rum and berries? Mervi's right, you will have no peace from Raspi--unless he is flat out on the basement floor!!

RASPI -- You know we are just kidding you, don't you? You are a very good-natured and tolerant bear to take all this teasing. Just remember, it is because we love you that we tease you. And you do have a fine singing voice, if a little loud....

Bear hugs to you Raspi and everyone else,
Sarsam

MERVI-
the new Elderberry comes in a few weeks, and this is not Liquor, that is with Rum s.th. for hardliners !!! But as soon as I have it I'll bring it here. By the way, Raspi has called every two minutes. He is so curious to know about the new "Schnaps"....

Sarsam - Yes, my cat barometer never fails. We had a thunder storm here but it didn't last very long.

Caren - We are waiting for the new delivery of the delicious elderberry liquor...and so is Herr Raspi. I'm afraid you'll be receiving phone calls all night long!

Bea - Let's have a cold drink to cool off. It's really warm and humid tonight. Dear Waiter, I hope there's some ice in our cellar or has Raspi been in his building mood again?

Hello Sarsam,
for an elderberry liqu. one must have time always. My colleague told me today, that she will be "brewing" another one with the berries and rum, I wonder if I can deal with that. I will bring it into Knuipe when she has it ready in a few weeks.

LUDMILA-
I'd like to come back to Ryzik, what about let him carry a small GPS then you know all the time where he is and you need not worry... not a good idea?

Ludmila -- now that is what I call a good "watch-cat" With one bite, Charles vanquished the enemy. Very efficient :-)))

Mervi -- So you have a cat barometer--has the thunderstorm come and gone?

Caren -- Yes, strategy with knusbands is a good thing!! Wish I could join you for an elderberry on the rocks, but I had better not--still working (well, working when I am not peeking)

Bear hugs, Sarsam

MERVI-
Thanks for sending sunshine, no and then the sun glimpsed through the rainy clouds.

MERVI, LUDMILA-
I would not say "who cares"...... of course, we care don't we, but they should not know everything we know.... simply strategy, nothing else.

My Dear Fluffy Waiter,
may I have an Elderberry on the rocks, please? Thank you so much....

Agi - I guess we've got too much heat here today since there's a thunder storm coming. I'll be happy to send you some sunshine. I just saw in the news there are floodings in Austria, Chech Republic and also in Germany. Stay dry and safe!

Alles wieder in Ordnung?

Bitte schicke ein wenig Hitze von Schweden Richtung Alpen.
Wir können ein wenig mehr Sonne gut brauchen

Bear hugs

Sarah - 'Overgrowm mouse', hahaa....Poor Gucci trying to make friends with the Gang. Miffe loves dogs but is very hostile towards other cats. Our neighbour had two beautiful collies and when they moved away Miffe was looking for them for months and he still is.

Sarsam - Your town must be a wonderful place to live in! Beautiful nature, fresh air and lots of animals of all kinds.

Ralph - If you can't make it to the zoo on September 6. you will make it to Joe's (or some other restaurant, maybe Zur Kneipe in Rankestrasse?) anyway!

Knuti-Judi, Luisa - I hope the weather's getting warmer. Here we're waiting for a thunder storm. I know it's coming because Miffe is so restless!

Caren, Ludmila - You're right! Who cares what a knusband thinks....

Hello from "Trying to be sunny" Massachusetts! May I join you for a drink also--iced tea for me though! As Knuti-Judi said, it is supposed to be more summer-like today--well it is certainly humid enough to be summer and we actually have a few rays of sun...

Happy Birthday Dumba!!

Sarah and Chelsea Gang -- I can just see the little dog cowering before your '"big bruisers"--hopefully they had recovered from their wine party :-))

Paula -- Hello! Yes we are very fortunate to have such a nice area to live in. We have about four acres at the edge of a sparsely populated town in the hills. A state forest is just a few miles away and there are many little ponds and lakes around. Of course, the down side is that this is a great area also for mosquitoes, black flies, deer flies, etc. --but only in wet seasons...

Sarah
Nice to hear from you. Greetings to the Chelsea Gang.
We had also the experience with a small dog in our garden. It was our black cat Charles. He was a fighter and chased all cats from his territory. Our neighbour had a small dachshund, it came someday in our garden. Charles was with one jump on its back and bit it in neck. The dachshund yowled, we screamed. Then Charles let the dog go. I did not see the dog in our garden any more.

Mervi
The Knusbands can think what they will. I agree with Caren.

Ralh
We are in Zoo on 6.9, maybe we will meet you.

Well I just posted a little message and it just plain disappeared into thin air!

Attempt No 2!

Good afternoon dear Knuipians. Sorry I have not been around but I need help to re-negotiate a contract with peeking time included!

Dear Dumba ? many happy returns from Sarah, Greg and the Chelsea Gang xxx

Ludmila ? hello we are fine thank you!

Tommy has been rather bad ? now calling him a weapon of mass destruction ? he jumped on the table via my leg ? hit MY glass of red wine, smashed the glass and the wine went everywhere ???

Sarsam ? how amazing to have a bear in your garden! We had a little visitor ? a white maltese terrier called Gucci ? same age as the gang but a quarter of the size ? he wants to make friends with the Gang but they think he is an overgrown mouse so I had to save him!

Love to All and sorry for not being around. In case I don?t get a chance to pop back in, have a great weekend everyone and catch up next week. Big kisses to dear Waiter ? smooch.

Love Sarah and the Chelsea Gang xxx

I have been working on my next visit to Berlin in September. I hope
to arrive in the afternoon of Sunday 6 September (in time to renew my
annual zoo pass before the office closes). However, as the flights from
London are sometimes delayed I may be too late. I hope I will be able to
come to the Knuipe.

Lots to do at the moment so I have not been visiting the Knuipe, but I must recify
this
